Previously known as Gurjaratra; the land of Gurjars, marks the extreme west of the political boundary of Indian mainland. The state encompasses major sites of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, such as Lothal and Dholavira. Gujarat's coastal cities, chiefly Bharuch and Khambhat have served as ports & trading centers since 320 BC. The state can be mainly divided into six major regions i.e Kutch, Saurashtra, North Gujarat, South Gujarat, East Gujarat and Central Gujarat.
